Fremont Christian School - Outdoor Education

Our Mission:

Glorify God by educating and nurturing students to impact the World of Christ.

Glorificando a dios, Educando y criando a los estudiantes para poder impactar el mundo en el Nombre de Cristo.

Outdoor Education Teacher:
At FCS, an Elementary Outdoor Education (OE) teacher is a grade level teacher who facilitates learning experiences in an indoor/outdoor environment to meet the needs of all learners. Grade level OE teachers use the outdoors as an extension of their classroom and nature as the curriculum while meeting the grade-level standards. OE teachers make it a goal to provide daily outdoor learning experiences including both grade level content and allowing time for nature play and exploration. This position has the opportunity to collaborate with the other OE teachers in grades K-5 along with support from the OE director.

OE standards teachers are responsible for:
Earth Keepers and Creation Enjoyers
Students respond to God’s call to care for creation. Students actively pursue renewal and restoration in God’s creation. Students take joy in creation and see how creation points us back to our creator.

Indoor/Outdoor Learning
OE is inquiry-based, real-world, experiential learning. It offers both an indoor/outdoor environment to meet the needs of all learners while also meeting the grade-level standards. Outdoor Education students spend an extra 5-10 hours outside per week.

Job Requirements
Applicants should desire to facilitate a nature-rich learning experience that encourages students to respond to God’s call to care for creation, pursue renewal and restoration in God’s creation, and take joy in creation. The OE program hopes students see how creation points us back to our creator.

Education Requirements
FCS is looking for candidates that have a B.A. in Education and a current teaching certificate.

What is Spanish Immersion?

Fremont Christian School sees and values the benefits of introducing children to a second language at a young age and in a unique setting as part of their educational experience. Spanish immersion provides an opportunity for our students to achieve high levels of academic proficiency in all content areas through the Spanish language. Other goals include: the ability to speak, read, and write proficiently in both Spanish and English as well as competence and appreciation for multiple cultures in the USA and around the world.

What is it like?

The students in this program learn the same academic and social content as their monolingual peers but it is delivered entirely in Spanish until they reach 3rd grade. Then, a portion of their curriculum will be introduced in English. The program continues through 8th grade with both English and Spanish used to deliver subject matter content. A continuation of the SI program is offered at Western Michigan Christian High School.

Our SI Staff

Our SI staff is made of up bilingual native Spanish and native English speakers. Some of the countries represented include Dominican Republic, México, Colombia, and Puerto Rico. We value the language and cultural experiences of each of these educators. Our SI teachers use standards-based curriculum for Spanish Language Arts and use assessment tools to measure both content and language acquisition. They are provided with SI specific professional development to support best educational practices and have a team of bilingual coaches and experts to support them. Students receive additional support by team of bilingual educational support staff who deliver small group and individual instruction as needed.
