OUTDOOR EDUCATION
What is Outdoor Education (OE)?
Outdoor Education is an opportunity to learn through action and exploration. Nature is the foundation for discovery, imaginative play, and problem-solving. Curriculum-based on state standards is enhanced through time in God’s creation. The goal of outdoor education is to provide students with another way to see how they fit in God’s story. Students will see how God is working in each of us and the world around us.
1. We are Earth Keepers and Creation Enjoyers
Students respond to God’s call to care for creation.
Students actively pursue renewal and restoration in God’s creation.
Students take joy in creation and see how creation points us back to our creator.
2. We experience Indoor/Outdoor Learning (Connecting Grade-Level Standards to the Outdoors)
OE is inquiry-based, real-world, experiential learning. It offers both an indoor/outdoor environment to meet the needs of all learners while also meeting the grade-level standards.
3. We create Community Connections
OE includes off-site learning and community connections with local agriculture and outdoor sites.
4. We engage in Grade Level Projects
Each grade level participates in yearly on-going projects such as growing flowers, establishing hiking trails, and managing the hoop house.
These ongoing projects provide ownership of learning along with character building.
